Colonial is a popular design for residential properties. This design dates back to the 1800s and is therefore often found in historical districts. It has specific features that distinguish it from other home styles. The following are details of Florida colonial style homes.

Details Of Florida Colonial Style Homes

Colonial style homes are often free-standing buildings with two complete floors and a rectangular footprint. Both levels usually have an identical footprint. The layout is ordinarily symmetrical with the entry way in the center and windows on both sides of the main entrance, although newer variations of the design may have the doorway off to one side. The upper floor contains the bedrooms and the first level features the living room, dining room, kitchen, and possibly a family room. The doorway opens to a foyer with a stairway. A garage or exterior deck are also typical features of Colonial homes. Roof design vary but will generally allow for some attic space. Additions provide appealing twists to the rectangular shape of a traditional Colonial style houses.

Colonial houses are desirable for many reasons. Many consider it ideal to have the bedrooms on a different level from common living areas. There are also a variety of exterior designs and variations of Colonial style properties that are visually enticing.
